Back in April of this year, Interpol drummer, Sam Fogarino, guest DJed our We Live In Public New York premier party and mentioned the band was working on a new record. However, when Paul Banks released his recent Julian Plenti album, which Sam drums on, we couldn’t help to wonder if that’s what he was talking about.

In a recent chat with Paste, we were pleased to find out Sam officially announced the band has a ‘yet-to-be-titled’ fourth album in the works for release in early 2010. One of our all-time favorite albums is Interpol’s 2002 Turn On The Bright Lights, so we couldn’t be more excited to hear the next record rediscovers this sound. Said Fogarino:

“The new record falls back towards the first. In trying to move forward, there was an unspoken realization that you can’t let go of your sonic-defining tag. There was an effort in Daniel [Kessler]’s guitar tone; he rediscovered it playing in his loft space for a year without anybody.”

Our favorite track from Turn On The Bright Lights:

Julian Plenti, aka Paul Banks, front man of one of our favorite bands, Interpol, has released a new record, Julian Plenti is…Skyscraper on Matador Records. It features contributions from guests including Ratatat’s Mike Stroud, Interpol’s Sam Fogarino, and Charles Burst of the Occasion. We’re usually skeptical of alter-ego projects (and rightfully so), but this one reflects Interpol, but brighter and lyrically, Banks Plenti is a bit sexier.
