INDIGENOUS Presents Lost Angeles w/Tropical Popsicle, RACES, Fidlar, Guards, Bleached, Weekend & Audacity

If you didn’t know by know we’ve relocated to Brooklyn, but we haven’t forgotten about our SoCal roots, so we’ve partnered with our LA loves, Origami Vinyl, The Echo/Spaceland and Dirty Laundry TV to present the Lost Angeles CMJ Party at Cake Shop on Wednesday, October 19th.

Fresh off their opening stint for The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and the release of their Beach With No Footprints 7“  and The Age of Attraction EP, both on Volar Records, Tropical Popsicle produce a psychedelic haze that evokes the Velvet Underground met with the sun drenched melodies of 60′s garage and surf rock.

RACES have come a long way since their days in the small back room at Lot 1, when they went by Black Jesus. Now this six piece is signed to French Kiss, with their self produced full length set to drop in early 2012 and we adore their large soaring pop styled jams ala Arcade Fire.

Fidlar have already been anointed one of the Best New Bands in Los Angeles by our friends over at Rollo & Grady and their DIYDUI 7″ (White Iris) showcases their patented blistering surf garage jams like “Max Can’t Surf.”

The brainchild of Richie James Follin (Willowz), Guards spent the better part of 2011 touring with heavyweights like Cults and headlined the Daytrotter Barnstormer IV Tour and dropped their Resolution of One EP (Kitsune Records), featuring the undeniably infectious title track and “Hear Your Call.”

Art Fag lovelies, Bleached combine the catchiness of the Ramones and Misfits with the art punk aesthetic of their former band Mika Miko for a pitch perfect dose of LA garage grunge like “Think of You.”

Consequence of Sound Premiere New Song by Dreamers of the Ghetto

Via Consequence of Sound

Dreamers of the Ghetto eptiomizes a lot of what makes the Midwest so distinct. For one, the four-piece is something of a family affair, comprised of brothers Luke and Jonathan Jones, Luke’s wife Lauren, and mutal friend Marty Sprowles. If that weren’t down-home enough, the band also hails from Bloomington, IN, the home to folk rock hero John Mellencamp and indie rock labels Secretly Canadian and Jagjaguwar. But unlike their neighbors, DotG’s take on rock offers up a decidedly different lean, one the whole world, including the good folks of B-Town, will hear when their debut album Enemy/Lover drops early next month.

Despite their rural upbringing, the group’s music is a combination of far more ethereal musical components. Combining the sweet sounds of ’80s rock, especially that of soundtracks and scores, with hunks of uber romantic dream-rock, the end result is a little bit rock and roll and a little bit synth-y groove-fest. The record’s second single, “State of a Dream”, defines the unit’s unique sound. Building up to what can only be described as Neil Young joining The xx, “State of a Dream” is as hazy as it is haggard. Check it out below.

HAZY PYSCH POP BY TROPICAL POPSICLE BRINGS THE DOLEFUL FEEL OF THE END OF SUMMER WITH DEBUT 7-INCH AND NEW EP

Somewhere in the shadows beneath a consummate sun-drenched pace of life lies hidden occult fantasies that keep you up at night, wherein Tropical Popsicle beckons you into their veiled world. Take the jangly melodies of 60′s garage jams and surf rock inspired by Southern California beaches and cast a psychedelic gloom across the whole coastline; Tropical Popsicle brings the doleful feel of the end of summer, over and over again.

After years playing in straight forward pop bands like the Stereotypes and Lights On, Tim Hines has ventured into his latest solo project, Trop Pop. While still grounded in smart, pop sensibility, Hines’ new sound is layered with complexity and cryptic vagueness.

The droning organs, stark drums, and ominous vocals of Tropical Popsicle’s first two tracks to surface on The Beach With No Footprints 7″ demonstrate a significant departure from Hines’ pop past into something far more mysterious. These recordings are set to release on October 4th via Volar Records, the San Diego label who’s roster includes The Fresh & Onlys, Davila 666, Audacity, Cold Pumas, and Ale Mainia. Pre-order The Beach With No Footprints 7” at Volar’s website.

Hines has now developed Trop Pop from a solo project to a full band with the edition of three members, Kyle Whatley (guitar, organ, backing vox), Chase Elliott (bass and synths), and Ryan Hand (drums & rattles). Together, they’ve taken what Hines began on the 7″ to new realms with The Age of Attraction EP, exemplified by the title track “The Age of Attraction,” a beautiful, hazy gem, tinged with melancholy and infused with timeless hooks that linger for days.

Their live set oozes ambiance. Trop Pop have opened for peers King Tuff, White Fence, Crystal Antlers, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Iceage and Times New Viking. Garnering critical acclaim from tastemaking blogs combined with a continuum of emerging tracks online only add to the intrigue surrounding Trop Pop, coaxing fans to return for more.

INDIGENOUS Presents The FINAL Rumble San Diego + SD Music Thing w/Crystal Antlers, White Fence, Tropical Popsicle, Davila 666, Cheap Time & So Many Wizards

After two amazing years, The Rumble San Diego is coming to an end and we couldn’t think of a better way to commemorate the event, then with our San Diego Music Thing showcase on Saturday September 10th. We’ve gathered a bill of some our favorite bands and partnered with Bar Pink for an epic night.

Crystal Antlers will be making the trek from Los Angeles before they head to the UK. This Long Beach quintet dropped Two Way Mirror (Recreation LTD) earlier this summer and it’s full of enough psychy garage goodness, that it’s been on repeat around our offices.

Tim Presley’s (Darker My Love/ The Strange Boys) solo project, White Fence has bred some of our favorite Velvet Underground inspired albums of the year, with Is Growing Faith. Pure retro Woodist perfection and the undeniable jangle of “Get That Heart” is downright swoon worthy.

Steeped in Warhol induced psychedelia, Tropical Popsicle melds hazy 60s styled psych pop with tinges of 80s new wave on dreamy numbers like “The Age of Attraction.” The side project of SD local Tim Hines (The Stereotypes, Lights On), released their Beach With No Footprints 7″ (Volar Records) in June and are set to play CMJ in October.

Vice darlings by way of Puerto Rico, Davila 666 are gracing our show with fellow In The Red labelmates, Cheap Time before they embark on a Fall tour together. After a series of successful releases dating back to 2006, including the Pitchfork certified, Tan Bajo, full of fuzzed out Spanish garage rock tunes.

Hailing from Memphis, Cheap Time spent most of last year opening for the likes of Yo La Tengo and recording the aptly titled Fantastic Explanations (and Similar Situations), for a Jay Retard influenced garage pop worthy offering.

Our own and Aquarium Drunkard favorites, So Many Wizards are venturing down from LA for the night, bringing their buoyant dreamy bedroom pop to SD. This trio make a blissful whimsical gems like Inner City and Best Friends off their newest 7″ (Seven Inch Project).

DREAMERS OF THE GHETTO SIGN TO TEMPORARY RESIDENCE LIMITED

Debut Album Enemy/Lover Coming October 4, 2011

Dreamers of the Ghetto are a family band from Bloomington, IN, consisting of brothers Luke and Jonathan Jones, Luke’s wife, Lauren, and Marty Sprowles. After teasing blogs with enigmatic, homemade video clips for the past year, Indiana’s most promising and perhaps most eccentric group are set to finally unleash their debut Enemy/Lover album on October 4 via Temporary Residence Ltd. Grab the first single, “Tether”

Dreamers of the Ghetto – Tether by INDIGENOUSPromotions

Dreamers of the Ghetto marries the sentiment of classic 80s film soundtracks to minimalist, romantic dream-rock, creating a unique environment that becomes almost instantly addicting.  The triumphant, reach-for-the-stars attitude of veterans like U2 and Depeche Mode is paired with the gospel splendor of Spiritualized and ominous austerity of The xx, all carried by what Shaking Through calls “the most amazing singer we’ve seen since Sharon Van Etten.” DOTG have mined a sound that is both timeless and nostalgic, and they’ve done so with an earnest fearlessness and refreshing lack of irony.  They are true, pure, and unbelievably powerful.

Only playing a handful of live shows outside of Bloomington to date, Dreamers of the Ghetto were handpicked to play as main support to The Flaming Lips and Superchunk at Raleigh’s Hopscotch Music Festival on September 10. After listening to Enemy/Lover Grayson Currin of Pitchfork and Hopscotch Music Festival says, “it sounds like the start of something major.”

Next Live Dates:

9.2.11 Bloomington, IN – The Bishop

9.10.11 Raleigh, NC – Hopscotch Music Festival w/ The Flaming Lips and Superchunk
