A music conference in San Diego? Yes, indeed. North Park Music Thing emerged a few years ago to not only showcase the abundance of talent emerging from the San Diego region, but to also educate the local community about the idiosyncrasies of the music business. Interestingly enough, it was at last year’s North Park Music Thing where INDIGENOUS was first introduced and swooned by the shoe-gaze psych-rockers, Tape Deck Mountain – now part our roster. This year will be no exception.
The Conference takes place August 13th and 14th, throughout the hub of San Diego’s creative culture, in North Park. It features panel discussions, workshops and demo review sessions by day and a plethora of live music by night. Get your badges here.
The full line-up was just announced and here are our top five picks of bands not to miss (in no particular order): Writer, Tape Deck Mountain, Little Deadman, LESANDS, and The Drowning Men.
INDIGENOUS will be hosting a private happy hour on Saturday, August 14th @ Bar Pink from 6-8pm. We’ll have two very special performances lined up, so be on the look out for our announcement.
Also, we’ll be representin’ on the the first panel of the conference, MUSIC INDUSTRY 101 – training wheels for the music biz. Be sure to come armed with lots of questions that will make us look really smart.
Others panels we find relevant to our world of indie rock are The Future of Music PR, Touring on a Budget, Getting Your Music Licensed and Indie Labels: The Resurgence. Full workshop list here.
All proceeds from the North Park Music Thing are donated to the San Diego Music Foundation, a non-profit organization that focuses its efforts on local musician assistance, music education, professional development, live performance and the annual San Diego Music Awards show recognizing creative achievement in the San Diego music community. The Foundation’s primary goal is to advance artistic growth and increase understanding, appreciation, enjoyment and interest in music and its ability to enhance and enrich the City of San Diego. A very cool thing to be a part of.
