Rising out of the FMLY DIY art collective, the Los Angeles duo, Dream Panther announce the official release of their debut EP, Beyonce’s Child out June 4th via Chill Mega Chill. Drawing inspiration from world music, this six track offering is a hazy atmospheric soundscape of electronica, R&B, and ethereal vocals that effortlessly waft through the air.

Dream Panther’s first single, “Chutes and the Ladder” is a soulful number with smooth vocals layered over airy sultry beats in which the duo refer to as post-gangster soul wave.The Beyonce’s Child EP is available digitally and on cassette for pre-order here.

Just in time for long and dreamy summer days, LA’s The Reflections release their shimmering debut, the Limerence LP (Arc Recordings). The ten-track album melds swaggering guitars, infectious harmonies and chugging basslines for a robust indie rock soundscape.

Led by Darian Zahedi and Jon Safley (the current drummer in Bleached), The Reflections developed when the two began to email lyrics and voice memos back and forth while on the road with other projects. They later collaborated in the studio with famed engineer and producer, Kenny Woods (Jenny Lewis, Lykke Li, Vampire Weekend) at Brightstreet Recorders and the pair spent the fall of 2012 introducing their sound with singles like the dreamy, “Summer Days” and the post-punk tinged, “Disconnected,” as well as the “Disconnected (Gardens & Villa Remix)”.

Called “US pop-perfection” by NME, The Reflections take sun-flecked So-Cal melodies and run it through a Brit-pop filter that’s been lauded by Spinner, Brooklyn Vegan and Bullett, that’s downright undeniable. The Limerence LP is available digitally here and The Reflections will celebrate the release of the album at The Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles on June 9th.

Criminal Hygiene continue to spread the gospel of their LA based artist collective, Small Smile Records, with the launch of their new film project, CRMNL HYGNE LP : A Musical Portrait.

The LA based trio challenged their artist/videographer friends (more affectionately referred to as their “badass list of contacts”) to each pick a track off their debut LP, CRMNL HYGNE and produce a music video within one week, which they edited into a 30ish minute film displaying the madcap of people, places, things that inspire them. It’s this DIY approach that have led Criminal Hygiene to be embraced by the likes of Consequence of Sound, MTV Hive, LA Weekly, Filter and now Impose who declared it’s, “casual subversion that both encapsulates the band’s punk vibe and add even more energy into the high-wired songs.” Peep the entire film above and read more about their process over at Impose.
