A Letter from So Many Wizards

Dear Friends,

It’s really all because of you that we’ve been able to come so far since starting this project. At first, So Many Wizards was just Nima sitting in his bedroom playing songs to his dog. Now we’re a full band and have recently been asked to play a string of shows in the UK! Simultaneously, we’re almost finished recording our first-ever full length record for release via Jaxart. But we need your help to make it to the next step. Traveling to the UK is expensive, and we also need to pay for a few things to complete the album. Each one of us lives for music and we’re just so grateful for the chance to be able to turn these opportunities into reality. Thank you all in advance for believing in us and becoming part of our family.

The Impact

By contributing, you would be directly responsible for helping us make our record sound sound the best it can. We’ll use the funds to properly mix and master our record and to bring our music to the UK. Touring the UK and sharing our sound with new people is essential to the band’s growth.

What We Need & What You Get

We need 5,000 dollars. A portion of your donations will go towards mixing and mastering our record so that it sounds the best it possibly can. Doing this properly won’t be cheap, but we definitely don’t want our record to be sub-par because of lack of funds. The other portion will go to costs to travel to the UK. Plane tickets, getting work visas, paying for transportation from city to city… it all adds up. We have put in all we could from our own pockets and now we need your help.

We really appreciate your support, and we have tons of awesome stuff with each level of donation, from handcrafted EPs that have been “sold out” for a while to new limited edition t-shirts, cassette decks, unreleased recordings and of course our upcoming LP. Pitchfork TV Premieres New Dreamers of the Ghetto Video

Pitchfork TV premiered Dreamers of the Ghetto’s latest video by for their new single, “Connection.” The band’s debut record, Enemy/Lover arrived via Temporary Residence Ltd and has been critically acclaimed by those on the forefront of indie music such as Pitchfork, NPR and KCRW. The video captures the endearing connection between bandmates (also husband and wife) Luke and Lauren Jones. Look for mid-west tour dates soon.

Prefix Mag Premieres Low Roar’s Debut Video

Ryan Karazija, formerly of West Coast indie rock band Audrye Sessions, uprooted himself from his longtime home of San Francisco, Calif. and decided to start over elsewhere. His new residence? Reykjavík, Iceland. It might seem like a strange place to suddenly move to, but he stumbled upon a newfound inspiration in the bitter cold.

And it was in the Icelandic capital city where he recorded his eponymous full-length debut as Low Roar. He weaves rich, lush textures across Low Roar, especially on its latest single, “Give Up.” Driven by Karazija’s tender-but-direct vocals, light acoustic guitars, and emotive pianos, the track carries an equally contemplative and cinematic vibe. Both feelings are portrayed in the superb visuals for “Give Up” that follow the daily life of a reclusive, aging man. It’s a gorgeous, movie-like look at just what Karazija might be referring to in his lyrics. Watch the video after the jump.

A sound drawing comparison to stadium acts like Arcade Fire, U2 and Springsteen laden with ominous gothic austerity, Indiana’s intensely real and perhaps most eccentric group,Dreamers of the Ghetto, will play New York December dates. Dreamers of the Ghetto released their debut albumEnemy/Lover in October on Temporary Residence Ltd. When Record Store Day launched in 2008 as a way to celebrate both music and independent retail, it almost seemed melancholy: a last-ditch attempt to rally around record stores when it looked like they were on their last legs. Now the annual event is huge, extending well beyond indie artists, labels, and retailers, and bringing everyone from Warner Music to Eric Clapton into the fold, substantially complicating its relationship with its initial indie cred. It’s proved so popular that RSD organizers have launched a spin-off event. This Black Friday, Nov. 25, Record Store Day organizers will be discharging a handful of specially pressed vinyl releases, for those of you who don’t spend the Friday after Thanksgiving circling the Target parking lot in your Dodge Stratus like an old crow at 4 a.m. or stepping on your neighbor’s throat to save 10 percent on a grey sweatshirt at Aéropostale like the rest of Middle America.

Here’s our arbitrarily categorized guide to what’s available on Black Friday at your local retailer. Though, considering that the number of units a given store gets (or if they get certain releases at all) is entirely randomized, we might as well be totally indiscriminate about it, right? Right. SEZIO FOUR DAY WEEKEND

The days may be getting shorter, but this weekend, San Diego, CA is guaranteed a long one. The Four Day Weekend music festival presented by Sezio will be hosted at the beautiful and vintage Sunset Temple, located in the heart of San Diego’s creative hub, North Park. The event will feature up and coming artists from all over the country paired with San Diego and Los Angeles favorites. Doors open promptly at 9pm for the all ages event, with nightly tickets available for $10 pre-sale or $30 for a 4 day pass.

Coming off of the release of their sophomore album, Garden of Arms, Peter Wolf Crier’s supremely charismatic lyrics and fuzzy distortions take purpose through the harmonies of indie rock duo, Peter Pisano and Brian Moen. The men from Minneapolis, Minnesota take to the stage Thursday, November 10th, as they kick off the weekend with fellow crooners, Chairs Missing, project of Paul Remund, formerly of Tape Deck Mountain, and San Francisco’s Birds & Batterires.

The young and ambitious San Diego trio, Dirty Gold, is set to headline the second night alongside artists, Rafter and the newest buzz-band you will soon love, Oregon Bike Trails. The tendered aged high school crew that is Dirty Gold have spent the last few months preparing their experimental, surf-pop debut EP, Roar, which is set to release on Autumn Tone Records, Aquarium Drunkard’s label venture, April 12 of 2012.

Saturday brings to light the genius behind Los Angeles based performers, Lord Huron. The use of a polyrhythmic, folk pop vibe is enhanced by front man Ben Schneiders effortless vocals, Lord Huron have made waves throughout the indie community delivering music that could easily be the concluding soundtrack to any cheerful tale. Also taking to the stage alongside Lord Huron are Los Angeles and INDIGENOUS’ own So Many Wizards, who will fill your ears with dream pop that will linger for days. So Many Wizards are joined by and San Diego brothers, Writer. We expect 2012 to be a big year in respect to label deals for both bands.

Aligning with the introversion of fall, Low Roar’s debut album out today on grammy-winning producer Andrew Scheps’ new label, Tonequake Records.

Low Roar is a response to the unknown; a vivid portrait of those life-altering moments stained with equal parts hope and melancholy. Project of Ryan Karazija, formerly of Audrye Sessions (Black Seal), Low Roar is the incarnation of change, atmosphere and loneliness after a move from San Francisco, California to Reykjavík, Iceland. His self-titled emotive, twelve song debut chronicles the challenges of starting anew in a foreign land and is an honest depiction of the struggles to acclimate, find work, and support his family in the Icelandic winter. The album’s opening lyrics ‘I won’t wake a wealthy man someday, cause the sun don’t follow me’ begin to tell Low Roar’s story.

The album takes the listener on Karazija’s unsettled journey conveying emotion with yearning choruses and haunting strings in simple, yet stark, classical arrangements, alongside optimistic melodies and folk-styled songs. Stream the Low Roar in it’s entirety at Spinner.com.

If you didn’t know by know we’ve relocated to Brooklyn, but we haven’t forgotten about our SoCal roots, so we’ve partnered with our LA loves, Origami Vinyl, The Echo/Spaceland and Dirty Laundry TV to present the Lost Angeles CMJ Party at Cake Shop on Wednesday, October 19th.

Fresh off their opening stint for The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and the release of their Beach With No Footprints 7“ and The Age of Attraction EP, both on Volar Records, Tropical Popsicle produce a psychedelic haze that evokes the Velvet Underground met with the sun drenched melodies of 60’s garage and surf rock.
