After two amazing years, The Rumble San Diego is coming to an end and we couldn’t think of a better way to commemorate the event, then with our San Diego Music Thing showcase on Saturday September 10th. We’ve gathered a bill of some our favorite bands and partnered with Bar Pink for an epic night.

Crystal Antlers will be making the trek from Los Angeles before they head to the UK. This Long Beach quintet dropped Two Way Mirror (Recreation LTD) earlier this summer and it’s full of enough psychy garage goodness, that it’s been on repeat around our offices.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Tim Presley’s (Darker My Love/ The Strange Boys) solo project, White Fence has bred some of our favorite Velvet Underground inspired albums of the year, with Is Growing Faith. Pure retro Woodist perfection and the undeniable jangle of “Get That Heart” is downright swoon worthy.

“Get That Heart” by White Fence by forcefieldpr

Steeped in Warhol induced psychedelia, Tropical Popsicle melds hazy 60s styled psych pop with tinges of 80s new wave on dreamy numbers like “The Age of Attraction.” The side project of SD local Tim Hines (The Stereotypes, Lights On), released their Beach With No Footprints 7″ (Volar Records) in June and are set to play CMJ in October.

Vice darlings by way of Puerto Rico, Davila 666 are gracing our show with fellow In The Red labelmates, Cheap Time before they embark on a Fall tour together. After a series of successful releases dating back to 2006, including the Pitchfork certified, Tan Bajo, full of fuzzed out Spanish garage rock tunes.

Hailing from Memphis, Cheap Time spent most of last year opening for the likes of Yo La Tengo and recording the aptly titled Fantastic Explanations (and Similar Situations), for a Jay Retard influenced garage pop worthy offering.

Our own and Aquarium Drunkard favorites, So Many Wizards are venturing down from LA for the night, bringing their buoyant dreamy bedroom pop to SD. This trio make a blissful whimsical gems like Inner City and Best Friends off their newest 7″ (Seven Inch Project).

Click here to view the embedded video.

Our resident DJ, Cory Casey will be spinning all night. SDMT wristbands will be honored. 21+ RSVP here.

Our deepest gratitude goes out to all of those partners, friends, and people who made The Rumble San Diego a reality over these last two years. Please show our partners, past and present some love and thanks for their contribution. Much love to Future Sounds, Bar Pink, SD Dialed In, Friends With Both Arms, Trumer Pils, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Eventbrite, M Theory, Veoba, Owl & Bear, Bedouin Vintage Collective and Sezio.

The community based non-profit organization, Los Angeles Arts and Athletics Alliance (LAAAA), announces the second year of Silver Lake Jubilee on May 21-22, 2011 located at Myra Avenue at Sunset Junction in the eclectic Silver Lake neighborhood. Silver Lake Jubilee is LAAAA’s largest fundraiser showcasing the unique artistic character and culture of the Silver Lake community and surrounding neighborhoods. The event not only offers the best of local and regional music, but an interactive and educational experience to attendees of all ages. This year’s programming features 50+ bands, comedy and theatrical performances, literary readings and book signings, Eco and Children’s Villages, film screenings, gourmet food trucks, beer gardens, street art, and a variety of craft vendors. Initial promotional partners include Brand X, Origami Vinyl, Buzz Bands LA, Spaceland Productions, INDIGENOUS, and Two Rabbits Studios.

LAAAA is a non-profit organization created by Festival Director, Jack Martinez, and Community Director, Charles Renn, promoting the importance of a life long engagement with arts and athletics. Apart from showing attendees a great time, LAAAA envisioned the event’s direct impact on the community and developed a commitment to local charities and the environment. They forged partnerships with local organizations and made charitable donations to 826LA, Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic, Kill Radio and Hollywood Arts Council. This year’s proceeds will benefit programs including lacrosse, graffiti art, music, writing and publishing, healthy living, and sustainability. “We’re excited to support these great causes,” says Martinez, “because that’s what Silver Lake is all about.”

Expanding upon the success of last year’s environmental initiatives, Silver Lake Jubilee will work with Sustain LA to build sustainability into every aspect of the festival including implementing a zero waste program, the use of alternative energy power sources, and banning Styrofoam, single‐use plastic bags, and plastic water bottles. In 2010, the event saved 30,000 single-use plastic bottles, contributing to an 80% landfill diversion rate.

Tickets can be purchased at http://silverlakejubilee2011.eventbrite.com/?ref=ebtnm for $5.

If you aren’t familiar with Lollapalooza, you should know that C3 makes it pretty darn easy to see as many bands on your schedule as possible, with their strategic timing and genre-centric sides of the park. This year, the North end of Grant Park (Budweiser and PlayStation stage) is more hip and indie while the South side (Parkways Foundation stage) tends to be a bit more mainstream; of course there are a few anomalies, but for the most part we haven’t had to hoof it back and forth too much.

Yesterday was a great day. A few notables: Stars performed a fantastic set while the crowd threw a glitter party amongst themselves. Then everyone migrated over to the Playstation stage for The xx. It’s amazing to see this band again after watching them perform to a 55-person crowd during a secret show at CMJ back in October. Now there are 55-year old men, along with everyone else in the audience of thousands, singing every lyric. Their live show remains the exact same (lackluster), with the exception of a few more head bangs from Oliver Sim; however, their live sound is a perfect replication of their recorded selves, which is a quite a good thing for these shoegazers.

There were a few surprising disappointments: Warpaint’s vocals sounded off-key…we heard from other artists who played the same Sony bloggie stage, there were problems with the sound and monitors. Let’s chalk it up to technology, cause musically they were spot on. Grizzly Bear’s set left the crowd feeling a little confused as well.

Deer Tick was phenomenal and invited everyone back to a pool party at the Hilton, which would have been lovely considering the 90 degree weather. Speaking of hot, Green Day absolutely killed their performance. They’ve been playing Chicago since 1990 and it shows: these guys know their audience, engage them well and perform their asses off. As usual, Billy Joe made some kid’s year by popping his stage diving cherry.

Our optimistic agenda for today includes: Miniature Tigers, The Antlers, Blitzen Trapper, Freelance Whales, Mumford & Sons, Chiddy Bang, Yeaysayer, Mutemath, The Temper Trap, The National and ARCADE FIRE. It’s raining, so that’s fun.

Yesterday’s festivities turned out to be much more exciting than originally planned. Waiting for the Festival Express backstage, our (golf cart) ride pulls up and before we can load in, Lady Gaga jumps out of her tour bus wearing nothing but a see-through body suit and star-shaped pasties covering her ta ta’s. She jumps into our cart, and burns outta there in the direction of the BMI stage. Apparently she was late to check out her favorite band, Semi Precious Weapons. We hear that once she got there, Ms. G got on stage with the band and promptly jumped into the crowd.

Today’s optimistic agenda is Harlem, Wild Beasts, Warpaint, Grizzly Bear, Deer Tick, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, Spoon, Cut Copy, and Phoenix.

A music conference in San Diego? Yes, indeed. North Park Music Thing emerged a few years ago to not only showcase the abundance of talent emerging from the San Diego region, but to also educate the local community about the idiosyncrasies of the music business. Interestingly enough, it was at last year’s North Park Music Thing where INDIGENOUS was first introduced and swooned by the shoe-gaze psych-rockers, Tape Deck Mountain – now part our roster. This year will be no exception.

The Conference takes place August 13th and 14th, throughout the hub of San Diego’s creative culture, in North Park. It features panel discussions, workshops and demo review sessions by day and a plethora of live music by night. Get your badges here.

The full line-up was just announced and here are our top five picks of bands not to miss (in no particular order): Writer, Tape Deck Mountain, Little Deadman, LESANDS, and The Drowning Men.

INDIGENOUS will be hosting a private happy hour on Saturday, August 14th @ Bar Pink from 6-8pm. We’ll have two very special performances lined up, so be on the look out for our announcement.

Also, we’ll be representin’ on the the first panel of the conference, MUSIC INDUSTRY 101 – training wheels for the music biz. Be sure to come armed with lots of questions that will make us look really smart. Others panels we find relevant to our world of indie rock are The Future of Music PR, Touring on a Budget, Getting Your Music Licensed and Indie Labels: The Resurgence. Full workshop list here.

All proceeds from the North Park Music Thing are donated to the San Diego Music Foundation, a non-profit organization that focuses its efforts on local musician assistance, music education, professional development, live performance and the annual San Diego Music Awards show recognizing creative achievement in the San Diego music community. The Foundation’s primary goal is to advance artistic growth and increase understanding, appreciation, enjoyment and interest in music and its ability to enhance and enrich the City of San Diego. A very cool thing to be a part of.
